2nd Grade

  After a long hot summer break, the students are excited and ready to begin the new school year. They will learn many new skills as second graders such as:

Reading and Writing

  • Identify & pronounce basic sight words
  • Retell & summarize stories
  • Discussion & dramatizing the six pillars of character, daily
  • Lots of creative & descriptive writing
  • Reading longer & more difficult passages fluently
  • Getting ready for Dibels weekly assignment

Math & Science

  • Adding & subtracting 1 digit whole numbers
  • Learning place value to 100 & the value of money by counting, comparing & making change
  • Engaging in hands-on activities to reinforce concepts
  • The materials used in the new Science books will be new and exciting

This school year will be loaded with many new adventures and learning experiences for the student. We plan to have fun and use a building block approach of layering new skills upon the basic foundation that will be laid this first term. We look forward to perfect attendance and lots of parental support throughout the school year.
