Ms. Barbara Howard
Third Grade

We are geared up for another exciting school year here at Hill Elementary School. We have already started on our adventure to prepare for the SAT-10, ARMT, and Dibels Testing. Our goals are to stay focused, work harder, and to read, read, read to move forward. We believe by focusing, reading, practice, and more practice we can meet our goal. We also welcome any parent volunteers who would like to come in and assist us as we work to achieve our goals. We hope you have planned an exciting year just as we have done.
Again this year, as with any other school year in our Third Grade Class, reading is emphasized daily. We want the children to enjoy and understand that Reading is Fun! Reading should also take place at home. In order to promote reading at home, books are sent home with child weekly in a binder. Parents or a family member are asked to set aside a fun reading and sharing time with their child. This time should be done in a non-rushed, relaxing, and comfortable place. After reading the book, the student can respond to the book in a number of ways:
1. Give their opinion of the book. Why he/she likes or dislikes the book?
2. Draw a picture of their favorite part and write a caption for it.
3. Retell in their own words and illustrate at the bottom
4. Change the ending of the story to something different.

This project will be implemented throughout the year to enhance the student’s reading ability.
Keep the channels of communication flowing.
